I live in my grandmother's old farmhouse and discovered this same machine in a fold out sewing table. I have never used a sewing machine in my life, but I've recently started making heavy metal/ punk/goth battle jackets. Hand stitching the band patches sucks so I dragged this machine out, took it apart, cleaned and oiled it. Had to order a belt, bobbin tire, and a light bulb , but it seems to work. I just found your video to give me an idea of how to thread it up. Hopefully I'll figure it out.

Pretty good video by Mike Kraemer, he should have used thread that, color-wise, contrasted to the denim to better show and demonstrate the Zig-Zag stitch patterns he attempted to show. His prices are SKY-HIGH, his communication prior to his making a Sale is responsive. His communication after the sale is pi** poor, I know. I have done business with him and I hosted him in my home along one of his gypsy trips. His prices are WAY HIGH and the "Restored" Singer 401A I bought from him for $530.00 cash was FAR FROM restored. Cracked Base, Mal aligned, missing parts, etc. Mike Kraemer is very talented in the personality department, fairly capable in the mechanical department, extremely talented in the SNAKE OIL department. As a novice buyer, after being gouged by Mike Kraemer on a "restored" 401A @ $530.00, I bought one locally for $125.00, un-restored that operated better than the one I bought from Mike Kraemer in a stand with a far greater compliment of accessories. If you are new to Vintage Singers, take your time, don't get SUCKED-IN by Mike Kraemer.

My question is about the video stopping before everything is done. My model 158.1040 is pretty much the same except the dials are chrome. However, mine has been in storage and something happened to ir. I tried to sew and the tension is a mess. The entire tension piece just fell out of the hole and into my hand! How do I fix that?!

I have a white 468 11674 serial I can’t find the size needle and how to insert the flat side ?? Left right or back??? It’s not stiching well nesting under fabric?? It came into a restore trying to get ready to sell😊

Over, WAY OVER PRICED, machine was wiped-off, not Refurbished. Watch-Out for this GIPsy, don't get gipped like I did. There are far better people/places to buy a vintage machine from. Lot's of BS personality, little actual substance with MIKE KRAEMER!

Had referred to some other videos/tutorial, taken the assembly apart and reassembled multiple times with each result worse than the last... After one final try with your video, I'm finally back up and running again! Thank you :)

Thanks so much. This helped me put the tension assembly back on o White model 793. It was taken apart when I bought the machine. By watching this I was able to put it back together for my daughter.

😂 we live in a don't give a fluck make your money nation. Unfortunately noone is gonna pay for styrofoam peanuts nor take the time to trash pick. people want to do as little as possible in the fastest way possible. There is no love or care left period. people who claim to be machine dealers and fixers aren't even servicing the machines they dealing. this is America and NOONE CARES. The charges upwards of $150 for shipping and uaed any too big to little box handy put that useless fragile tape on there. forget the handles cut outs with the parts falling out of them. i returned a broken shipped machine took the time trash picked took a good 45 monutes to pack. I removed the spool holder taped down the screws. 4-5 spokes were broken off by the time it got to me. with my example i hope they learned to pack. unfortunately Probably they dont care. Just vlad to say they own a business. America is trish on sooo many levels.

No, therr should be no electricity flowing through the frame. The frame is not designed to be grounded, or on neutral wire. You have a short that is not proper.

I just picked up one of these R-1000 and cannot figure out how to turn it on. The wiring and pedal are in good condition. With everything plugged in, pressing the pedal does nothing. Not even an attempt to start. The hand wheel and feed dog move freely. Which button turns it on so I know where to focus? Thank you!

Yesterday, I found a barely used (!) Wards Signature Happy R103 that was being tossed. Today I found your channel. I'm so glad I did because the machine in the video above is very similar to mine. Because my machine has barely been used (judging by the condition of the light green paint), that itself comes with some issues. My first order is to replace the (original? White) belt that shredded when I turned the machine on.

What size bobbin do I use in a 403 slant o matic singer

Hi! I’ve got an 830 that is moving the needle while it’s in the fabric. It happens during decorative stitching. It’s like the parabola is upside down. It will sew a straight line and a zigzag. Any ideas to point me in the right direction?

I have an old Nelco that I got at a rummage sale for $10, but then spent $125 getting it all cleaned, oiled, and fixed. It worked beautifully for several projects,but now I can't figure out how to thread it! I feel like an idiot. I put different color threads in the top and bottom so I could see where the problem is coming from. It seems to be the top thread giving loops on the underside. I don't know the model # but will keep looking for it. Thank you. I find your voice very calming because I am so stressed out about the machine not sewing properly and I just know it is something I am doing wrong!

How is the grease box changed?

Is the little plastic lever repairable? I think its the reverse switch but not 100% sure due to it breaking off

Great video!! FINALLY!!! Someone mentioned the orientation of the flat spot on the needle!!!! Yayyyy! I’m having trouble with my thread being too slack. I have larger spools, so I had to buy a spool tree or whatever you call it. I can’t figure out, where to sit the darn thing, so that the thread goes through the machine with normal tension. Also, what should my tension knob be set on for leather, vs cloth?
